Pneumatic Rescue Boat vs Rigid Inflatable Boat: How to Choose for Flood and Water Rescue

Leave a message

TL;DR

If your boats sit in a depot and get trucked to flood zones, buy a pneumatic rescue boat. The CWTC 550 x 200 cm model packs to 136 x 81 x 50 cm, inflates in about 8 minutes, carries 14-15 people and loads 26 to a 20GP container. If you launch from a trailer at one waterfront and chase speed on open water, a rigid inflatable boat (RIB) is the better tool.

Two designs dominate flood-rescue tenders: the fully inflatable boat and the rigid inflatable boat. Both float and both carry a crew. They part ways on storage, shipping, repair and the kind of water you work in.

Below we compare them using the CWTC pneumatic rescue boat as the reference. Use the tabs to jump to the detail you care about.

01 / THE BOAT

What Is a Pneumatic Rescue Boat?

A pneumatic rescue boat is built from air-filled tubes with a flexible hull. The CWTC 1020 adds a thickened aluminum floor, so you stand on a firm deck, yet the whole boat still deflates and folds into one package.

Emergency teams, military units and relief groups use it for flood rescue, evacuation, patrol and water search.

Pneumatic Rescue Boat Specifications by Category

Size & Capacity
Item Value
Length x width 550 x 200 cm
Tube diameter 50 cm
Air chambers 5+1
Capacity 14-15 persons
Load capacity 1,400 kg
Net weight 150 kg
Recommended outboard 40-60 HP

Count crew, passengers and gear against the 1,400 kg rating. The boat itself weighs 150 kg, so a small team can still carry it to the water.

Materials & Build
Item Value
Hull and tubes 1.2 mm PVC as standard
Custom options 0.9 mm or 1.2 mm; PVC or rubber
Floor Thickened aluminum alloy
Inflation pressure 20 kPa or above
Colors Black, red, yellow, dark blue, sky blue, orange, light gray, dark gray

Thicker fabric is worth considering if you expect debris, fences or roofing in the water. Thinner fabric saves weight and cost for calmer work.

Packing & Shipping
Item Value
Packed size 136 x 81 x 50 cm
20GP container 26 sets
40HQ container 75 sets
Inflation About 8 minutes with an electric pump, 1-2 people

A 40HQ holds 75 boats. A rigid hull cannot be folded, so this density is hard to match with any other design.

Kit & Options
Item Details
Standard kit Boat, thickened aluminum floor set, 2 corrosion-resistant aluminum paddles, 2 seat boards, canvas carry bag, foot pump, repair tool set
Optional Outboard motor, polyester rescue ladder, searchlight bracket, boat trailer, outboard trolley, propeller guard

Ask for the add-ons you need at quotation stage, since the ladder, searchlight bracket and trailer are easier to fit at the factory.

Pneumatic Rescue Boat vs RIB: Side-by-Side Comparison

A RIB pairs an inflatable collar with a rigid hull, usually fiberglass or aluminum. The pneumatic boat has no rigid hull at all. The RIB column describes typical designs, not a single brand.

Storage & Shipping

Deflated pneumatic rescue boat ready for storage and transport Deflated pneumatic rescue boat ready for storage and transport

Factor Pneumatic rescue boat RIB
Packed form One 136 x 81 x 50 cm package Full hull length stays intact
Per 20GP container 26 sets Far fewer, because the hull cannot fold
Storage A shelf or a truck corner Trailer, davit or dock space

For stockpiles, tender orders and projects that ship overseas, the pneumatic boat wins on logistics.

Launch & Speed

Pneumatic rescue boat launching and moving on water Pneumatic rescue boat launching and moving on water

Factor Pneumatic rescue boat RIB
Time to ready About 8 minutes to inflate, then mount the motor Collar is usually kept inflated
Launch site Any bank, road edge or flooded street Ramp or trailer
Speed and rough water Suited to floods, rivers, lakes, sheltered coast Typically stronger at high speed in open water

The RIB is quicker off the trailer. The pneumatic boat gets to places a trailer cannot.

Damage & Repair

Air chamber construction of an inflatable rescue boat Air chamber construction of an inflatable rescue boat

Factor Pneumatic rescue boat RIB
Air chambers 5+1, so one puncture does not empty the whole boat Collar is also chambered
Field repair Glue patch with a repair kit Collar patches are similar
Hull damage Aluminum floor replaces separately Rigid hull damage usually needs a workshop

Whichever you buy, keep a patch kit on board and check it before each deployment.

Best Fit

Factor Pneumatic rescue boat RIB
Fleet type Large or distributed fleets, relief stockpiles Single base, small fleet
Terrain Flooded towns, rivers, lakes Harbors, coastlines, open water
Team Crews that move by road or air Crews with trailers and a slipway

If you are still unsure, tell us your launch sites and crew size and we will say plainly which one fits.

02 / THE DECISION

Which Rescue Boat Should You Buy?

Start with where the boat lives and where it works. A boat kept in a depot and trucked to different flood zones suits the pneumatic design. A boat kept on a trailer at one waterfront suits the RIB.

Inflatable rescue boat for flood rescue operations

Go pneumatic if you

  • stock many boats and ship by container
  • carry boats to remote or flooded sites
  • want field repair with a patch kit
  • work mostly on floods, rivers and lakes

Go RIB if you

  • launch from a fixed base with a trailer
  • patrol open water at higher speeds
  • have room to store a rigid hull
  • can accept lower shipping density

5-Step Checklist Before You Order

01

Match capacity

The 550 x 200 cm boat is rated for 14-15 persons and 1,400 kg.

02

Pick the material

PVC or rubber, 0.9 mm or 1.2 mm. Heavier fabric holds up better against debris.

03

Size the outboard

We recommend 40-60 HP, plus a propeller guard near swimmers or debris.

04

Choose accessories

Ladder, searchlight bracket, trailer and outboard trolley can be added.

05

Plan the order

MOQ is 10 sets. Samples take 7 days, bulk orders 30-45 days.

Steel outboard motor trolley for pneumatic rescue boat

03 / ACCESSORIES

Small Add-Ons That Matter in the Field

A 150 kg boat plus a 40-60 HP motor is awkward to wheel down a bank, which is why the steel outboard trolley is popular. Pair it with the propeller guard when you work near people in the water.

Eight hull colors are available, and logo printing is free.

04 / FIELD CARE

How to Patch a Punctured Inflatable Boat

  1. Find the damage and clean it with alcohol. The area and the patch must be clean and dry.
  2. Cut a patch slightly larger than the damage.
  3. Brush thin, even glue on both surfaces. Wait 3-5 minutes, then repeat once.
  4. Press the patch on, warm it with a hot-air gun, press firmly with a smooth object and leave it for 8 hours.

One 20GP container holds 26 sets and one 40HQ holds 75 sets. Each set packs to 136 x 81 x 50 cm.

Final Recommendation

For flood response, stockpiling and remote deployment, a pneumatic rescue boat gives the best mix of capacity, transport density and field repair. If open-water speed is your main job, look at a RIB first. Related models: inflatable rescue boat and emergency inflatable boat.
