Design is undoubtedly a factor, but material substitution is even more crucial. Materials can be categorized into fabrics, linings, bottoms, and supports. Generally, fabrics with the same label may have different densities, resulting in varying tensile strengths and waterproof ratings.
Different fabric proportions make nylon filaments thin and light. Oxford cloth is thicker but heavier, suitable for mountaineering and hiking campers, ideal for camping or small group tents. From a waterproofing perspective, while PVC has excellent waterproof properties, it hardens and becomes brittle in winter, easily wrinkling or breaking. PU coatings overcome these shortcomings of PVC and are highly waterproof. PU can achieve waterproof ratings exceeding 2000mm.
